So, as many of you may know, I'm a geek. Not like there's anything wrong with that, I don't regret being a geek, nor am I offended when someone calls me geek, for I accept being one. Although, you have to know that being a nerd and being a geek is a completely different thing. I'm a geek, so I like to play a lot about video games and am interested in technology shit. I suppose "geek" can also be defined as eccentric at times... BUT MEH. You know what I mean, damn it!
So here I am today writing about...
So, why am I geek? Well, when I was 2 - 4 years old, my Dad thought it was a good idea for him to buy a Nintendo 64. Although, he planned to buy it for himself, not for my brother and I. Unfortunately, he didn't have much time so we didn't want the console to go to waste (he-he...)! So that's when I started. Super Mario 64 was my first video game ever, along with Pokemon Stadium. When I first played Mario 64, I was fascinated how I could control such an environment with a simple controller and AWESOME graphics (awesome at the time). I was having a blast and my Dad kept getting us more games because we kept asking for more.
A few years later, we got the GameCube and then we got our Wii for Christmas some years later the GameCube. So basically, I've played video games almost all of my life, and I still do! I find video games a work of art of some sort. Just thinking of all the effort people have put into these games is just stunning, 'specially recently with better graphics and way more detailed environments/characters.
Now, how has all of this game playing affected my life? Well, pretty much how gaming has affected every geek you see in your school! All he knows, is games. Not much of everything else because that's all they probably do all day. I still play a lot, but not much as I used to... That's probably the way it happens to plenty of people too, I guess. Anyways, how has it affected me? Other than I am now Super Mario and am supposed to save the princess and am not totally going crazy with gaming confusing it with reality. Of course not.
Bad side: I was a bit shy back then, because not many people played games as much as I did, so I guess I got to be antisocial for a time. Another bad thing is that there are plenty of people that try to be mean out there that just dislike geeks like me (Although I don't mind. It's usually the stupid people who make fun of them for doing what they like, anyways. I have a way to get them back more on that some other day...). So there's going to be plenty of people who will make fun of you got like geeky stuff. One final thing is that I guess I didn't have much friends back in the day. But hey! I had a FEW friends who were also like me who liked the same things as I did (and for me, that's good enough!)
Good side: I got to listen more good music! Believe it or not, there are a lot of video games that have WONDERFUL music. Almost better than what we have nowadays (Which is why I have 19 GBs of mostly video game music on my computer) Some other reason, is that my vocabulary has grown thanks to games! I never read much during my life, so I guess I played so much games with text that I eventually got the vocabulary I have today. So I guess having a Healing Potion under some Cobblestone can really screw you over when you are a Level 3 Archer trying to beat a gigantic boss. (Stereotypes. Oh yeah.).
There's plenty of good and bad reasons, but I usually ignore the bad ones, because nowadays, I don't really give a damn about what people think about my "hobbies". I just look at the good side as I do with most stuff!
So I guess I have to conclude this so I don't make it so long (not like it isn't already...). Why do I play games? Because it's my favorite form of entertainment. Plain and simple. Kind of in a battle between watching movies and playing games, but I'm going for games. I've played them most of my life, and I don't plan on stopping any time soon. Most of you may ask yourself what my favorite video game may be... The answer to that may be... OBJECTIONABLE, maybe?
